CARROLLWOOD – The annual ArtLAB festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 20) at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road.

The festival will feature live painting and hands-on creative activities.

The Thornhill Foundation for the Arts (TFA) presents this event with free admission for all-ages. The foundation has partnered with the Tampa Regional Artists, Paint 22, InterPlay Space, the Life Enrichment Center, the Tampa Public Arts Foundation, Eunoia and the Art of Science.

This is the second year the event that will bring emerging and established professional artists together for a signature, fast-paced live-art competition.

The two-hour juried live painting battle will feature 30 local artists creating original 2D artworks using canvases provided. The selected winner receives the opportunity to present a solo art exhibition at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. Visitors can watch painting take shape, browse local vendors and the silent art auction.

Acclaimed local artists Mishou Sanchez and Curtis Whitman will create large-scale paintings onsite, which will also be up for bid in the silent auction.

NOMAD art bus will bring a variety of art activities. Shine and the Shakers, an Ocala-based indie band, and the Giving Tree drum circle will bring live music. There will also be Food trucks like the Ramen & Waffles and Nutri Truck.

A portion of the proceeds raised during the event goes to support small grants for area art teachers to purchase classroom supplies.

Title sponsor EVOS of Carrollwood will be onsite at Art LAB alongside Blick Art Materials. Other sponsors of the event include Tampa Theatre, Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts and Tampa Museum of Art.
