$500 reward offered for chihuahua stolen from Pasco adoption event

WESLEY CHAPEL — A $500 reward is being offered for safe return of Tanner, a chihuahua who was taken over the weekend from a pet adoption event at PetSmart.

Tanner has special needs: He is extremely skittish, becomes upset if put on a leash and is nearly impossible to catch if he gets loose outside, according to the Animal Friends Society, which holds the weekly adoption events at the Wesley Chapel PetSmart. The 14-month-old dog is not house trained.

"We are very concerned that the people who stole him will become frustrated and dump him, lose him or hurt him," said Valerie Vandiver, a volunteer with the rescue group.

Tanner weighs 5.4 pounds had has distinctive ears: His left ear folds forward, and his right ear stands straight up. He is microchipped.

Tanner can be returned, no questions asked, to the PetSmart at the Grove shopping center off State Road 54. Anyone with information can call PetSmart at (813) 994-7010 or e-mail animalfriendssociety@hotmail.com.
