It wasn't exactly a duck rescue, but one St. Petersburg woman is grateful for firefighters' help.
Janet Wuske, 81, and Brendan Horan thought 16 newly hatched ducks were stuck in a storm drain at the corner of 16th Ave. North and Crescent Lake Dr. Monday afternoon.
St. Petersburg Fire Department Lt. Phil Whitman and firefighters Erin Walton and Tommy Dorsey arrived to help round up the ducks from the drain. When they lifted the concrete cover, the firefighters discovered it led to Crescent Lake where the ducks live.
Wuske called the firefighters "real heroes" and gave each one a hug. City workers then used a crane to replace the storm drain cover.
