Budding Hernando scientists of all stripes turned out Thursday for the school district's annual science fair. The fair, held at the Alfred McKethan Civic Auditorium, had 109 entries. Students prepared their exhibits and then explained their efforts to judges who have professional expertise in science and math. Colleen Doulk, coordinator of the science fair and teacher at Challenger K-8 in Spring Hill, said there were fewer projects this year than last year but the competition has stressed quality more than quantity. "We typically do well in the state competition," Doulk said, and usually place 20 to 25 students from the county.
