Concert helps needy

Musician Bobby G. Summers will hold a concert from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Lake St. Clair neighborhood in Apollo Beach. The concert is free. Nonperishable food, clothing and school supplies will be collected to benefit the Emergency Care Help Organization in Brandon. The concert is on the southeast corner of Lake St. Clair. Ride for the troops

American Veterans Post 44 will hold its second annual Remembrance Ride and Pig Roast to benefit wounded troops on Sept. 12. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. with a motorcycle ride from the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., Tampa, to the AMVETS post, 318 Pauls Drive, Brandon. Once the bikes arrive, there will be a pig roast, music, an auction, a 50/50 drawing, vendors and prizes. Proceeds will go to the hospital's Recreation Service Fund. Learn Spanish for free

The Brandon Family Support & Resource Center will hold registration for a six-week Spanish class from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at 1277 Kingsway Road, Brandon. Shop for schools

Shopping at Westfield Brandon mall the next two months could help the school of your choice earn money. As part of the mall's Cash4Class contest, shoppers can present receipts to the concierge desk through Nov. 1 to help schools tally points. The school with the most points — based on purchases and student ratios — will win $10,000. Second and third place schools will receive $5,000 and $1,500, respectively.
