Brooksville

Association of Arts and Crafts: An arts and crafts club is forming in Hernando County. There is no cost to join. The first newsletter is expected to be published before the end of May. Members can submit photos of their products by Wednesday for a free insertion with the newsletter. The goal of the group is to establish an arts and craft show on at least a monthly basis at various locations. Sponsors for the events will be sought. Hernando Audubon Society: Annual picnic, 5 p.m. May 28, Pine Island, 10800 Pine Island Drive, west of Weeki Wachee. There will be a birding/nature walk starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the picnic at 6:15 p.m. Hot dogs provided by Audubon. Members should bring their own place settings, nonalcoholic beverages and a covered dish to share. Bring a field guide, binoculars and/or scope for the walk. This is the final event of the season. Spring Hill

Daughters of the American Revolution, Winding Waters Chapter: Noon Thursday, Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane. There will be a memorial service for departed members, and new officers will be installed. Membership is open to women 18 and older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. The chapter can help prospective members with their genealogy. (352) 596-2457.

Sons of Italy, Nature Coast Lodge 2502: Dinner/business meeting, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Senior Citizens Club of Hernando County, 7925 Rhanbuoy Road. Those of Italian descent, guests and others interested are invited to join. Annual dues are $40; there is a one-time $15 fee to the state lodge. This is a fraternal and social organization that has dinner/business meetings on the third Wednesday, a monthly social night at a local restaurant, and three yearly dinner-dances (scholarship, Columbus Day and Christmas). Also, in March, the lodge sponsors a St. Joseph's Day Community Mass and complimentary spaghetti dinner. Functions support Colley's anemia, Alzheimer's, cancer and other local charities. Spring Hill Amateur Radio Club: Club meeting, 7 p.m. today, Oak Hill Hospital, cafeteria room 2, 11375 Cortez Blvd. The club operates on a 2-meter repeater on 146.805 MHz (no tone) and conducts a SKYWARN Weather Net at 7:30 p.m. and a club net at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, except meeting nights (third Tuesday of the month). Filipino-American Social Club of Hernando and Pasco: Traditional Philippine Fiesta celebrating Philippine Independence Day, 2 to 7 p.m. June 7, Heritage Pines Country Club, 11524 Scenic Hills Blvd., off County Line Road. There will be a buffet dinner; the main course will be chicken marsala and sweet and sour salmon fillet. Also, as a Philippine custom, two whole roasted pigs will be provided, along with traditional native desserts. Entertainment will include dancing to music provided by DJ Willie. A cultural dance troupe will perform. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for ages 13 and younger (a special children's menu is available). Dress is semiformal or native costume.
