Stratford Court of Palm Harbor, a Sunrise Senior Living Retirement Community, welcomed U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis as guest speaker at The Stratford Court Men's Forum in May.
Mr. Bilirakis addressed issues of interest to senior citizens today and many of Stratford Court's residents were present for the event, which included a question and answer period.
A Brownie garden
As a community service project, scout leader Sharron Bauer and the Brownies of Troop 1024 created a butterfly garden consisting of milkweed, lantana and plumbago plants. The garden was installed near the chapel between the elementary and middle school buildings of Guardian Angels Catholic School, Clearwater.
Junior League looks for new members
The Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin is recruiting new members and will host membership sessions throughout the summer to promote the organization and its goals. The first session will be 6 p.m. June 16 at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N Osceola Ave.
Topics covered will include the mission of the JLCD as well as benefits and requirements of membership.
"Every year we seek out a diverse group of women to join JLCD," said Sarah Miller, membership development chair. "Membership offers opportunity for leadership, education, direct impact on the community and friendship,"

Countryside Kiwanis announces officers
Countryside Kiwanis Club recently elected officers and directors for 2009/2010. Chuck Winscott will serve as president; Tom DuLaney, vice president; Bill Greer, secretary; and Dale Thompson, treasurer.
Directors elected for one year terms will be Marion Spengler, Wilber Van Scoik and Frank Ward. Those serving a two-year term are Steve Bouton, Jan Gordon and Dave Lindeman.

Abilities Guild installs board of directors
The Abilities Guild installed its incoming board of directors for 2009-2010 at a dinner party May 1 at the Belleair Country Club. Melissa Thornton, Executive Assistant to the Abilities Foundation President, gave the oath of office to the following: Bill DeMambro, president; Patricia Brant, first vice president; Al Tower, second vice president; Roger Ormerod,treasurer; Dave Gauler, assistant treasurer; Barbara Hoskinsonn, corresponding secretary; and Sherrie Morton-Tetrick, recording secretary.
The evening's speaker was Kim Dittman, project coordinator, who appraised members and guests of High School/High Tech, a new program designed for disabled youth ages 14 to 22 which explored education opportunities in technology related careers.
Outgoing president Bill Hollingsworth presented a check to the Abilities Foundation in the amount of $41,300, funds raised by the guild during the previous year, and was honored for his many years of service and volunteer hours to the guild and foundation.
New officers installed for Fine Art Society
Dorothy Edmunds, past president and founder of the Fine Arts Society, installed new officers for 2009-2010 at its annual spring luncheon May 21 at Carlouel Yacht Club, Clearwater. They are: Lois O'Donnell, president; Gloria Hollingsworth, first vice president; Peggy Powell, second vice president; Lynn Lees, treasurer; Joyce Muller, assistant treasurer; Sherrie Morton, recording secretary; and Kate Sullivan, corresponding secretary.
New members June Hosner, Joyce Jung, Barbara Meehan, Dinnie Moore, Nancy Keyton, Myrtle Sachs and Gail VanZanten were each presented a rose by longtime member Bobbie Adair. Jeffery Hartman was also recognized as a new member.
Outgoing president Claire Mattison, along with Gloria Hollingsworth and Lynn Lees, presented a check for $5,000 to Christopher Still, money that was designated for Mr. Still's exhibition at the now-closed Gulf Coast Museum of Art. Mr. Still donated the check back to the society for their new endeavors in the arts in Pinellas County.
