Moment of silence for Steinbrenner

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Baseball took a moment to honor The Boss on Tuesday night.

Before the All-Star Game, a moment of silence was held for George Steinbrenner, 80, who died early Tuesday.

A tribute to the Yankees owner was shown on the video board at Angel Stadium before the game. Fans and players then honored Steinbrenner with a brief silence.

Shortstop Derek Jeter and other members of the Yankees wore black armbands. The U.S., Canadian and state of California flags were lowered to half-staff.

The Yankees will wear uniform patches for the rest of the season to remember Steinbrenner and longtime public address announcer Bob Sheppard, who died at age 99 on Sunday.

The patch for Steinbrenner will have his initials and include "The Boss." It will be worn above the interlocking NY on the pinstriped home uniform and above the "York" on the road grays.

The patch for Sheppard features a microphone and will be worn on the left sleeve of the home and away uniforms.
