Palin is gaffe free in debate; more black parents involved in Pinellas schools

The gaffes Sarah Palin made during her Katie Couric interview had a silver lining because it reduced expectations for her debate performance. When she managed to hold her own — though she wasn't terribly substantive — some people raved.

But Joe Biden made his points and it was at best a draw. Palin delivered about what I expected from a former broadcaster turned governor, but I'm struck by how her "Joe Six-Pack" persona is so similar to the 2000 version of George W. Bush. …

The Pinellas School District has to make sure its majority black schools offer the same quality education as the rest. How? Start with an effort to strengthen those schools' parental involvement.

I'm not going to call for Lowry Park Zoo president Lex Salisbury to resign — yet — but I do know a good business ethics expert if he's in the market. …

Congress should have added one thing to the bailout plan: a ban on late-night, get-rich-quick real estate informercials. …

Seen on a bumper sticker: When you do a good deed, get a receipt in case heaven is like the IRS. …

Call it premature, but I'm declaring Evan Longoria one of the 10 best professional athletes in Tampa Bay history.

The other nine (in no particular order): Lee Roy Selmon, Vinny Lecavalier, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, Carl Crawford, Martin St. Louis, Rodney Marsh, Gary Anderson and Babe Zaharias. …

As a Bucs fan, I guess I should be rooting for Sapp to win Dancing With the Stars, but I'm pulling for Susan Lucci.

After watching All My Children for 30 years, I not only want to her win, I want to meet her.

That's all I'm saying.

I see what you mean about the Pinellas County School District, "they're" going to have to figure out how to make the parents of "black schools" care about their childrens education, easier said then done.

Sapp in Tampa's Top Ten? You're too short sited and slightly biased... but you already knew that.

Why is it the school system's responsibility to make the effort to "strengthen" parental involvement? You really can't make people who don't want to be involved care about schools.

What about Wade Boggs and Fred McGriff? One HOFer and one future no-steroid HOFer. Soccer players? Please. And 2 current hockey players. Heard of John Lynch? Who is Gary Anderson anyway?

Hooper, I think you have it backwards. The parents of the black kids in Pinellas County schools should be working to strengthen their involvement with schools.A government agency should not have to coerce them into something like that.

subject: on what congress should have added to the bail out plan. use your remote or get up off your ass and change the channel, if it sounds to good to be true then it probley is. and furthermore they should'ent have bail no one out get rich quick

Huh? So misrepresenting her running mate's position on foreclosure/bankruptcy wasn't a gaffe? How about the Gen. McClellan thing?Arguably not huge 1s, but gaffes nonetheless...
