The New Tampa postal station in Tampa Palms will host a barbecue from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday to raise money for charity. Employees, who collect money each year during an internal monthlong charity drive, decided to reach out to the public this year. "Even our own employees are falling on hard times," said postal employee Sam Simmons. "So we need everyone's help." BJ's Warehouse and Sweetbay Supermarkets are donating hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and sodas for the event. The suggested donation is at least $3 for the lunch, Simmons said. Last year, postal employees at the New Tampa office, 16350 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., raised more than $9,000, Simmons said. The money goes to various charities around the Tampa Bay area.
