Glen Slaydon cherishes the time he spends with his daughter, Kamryn.

That was especially true this past Saturday night when he and Kamryn, 9, attended the 31st Annual Daddy Daughter Date Night at the Highland Recreation Complex in Largo. It was their fourth straight year at the event.

"It's just nice to have the chance to bond with her," the single dad said. "We're going to keep coming until she's married."

They were among 160 dads and daughters who attended the event, which featured a Wild, Wild West theme.

Attendance was down from about 250 people last year, said Jennifer McMahon, recreation manager of the Southwest Recreation Complex. She attributed the smaller crowd to the economy, but said it turned out well because the event normally takes place at the larger Southwest complex.

"It actually worked out better because there was room to dance," she said. "Some dads and daughters dressed to theme. Some dressed in tuxes and dresses. It was a lot of fun."

Activities included limbo, hula hoop and dance contests.

Fast Break Entertainment, a disc jockey based in Largo, provided the music.
