Changing name of Times was an 'easy call'

The change from St. Petersburg Times to Tampa Bay Times may have come as a surprise to many, but not to readers of the South Tampa Community News.

In the September edition, owner/publisher Bill Sharpe predicted that the Times would change the name on "issues distributed in Tampa" and change the name on the St. Pete Times Forum.

Sharpe said Wednesday he just had a sense about the move because our legal agreement with the Tampa Tribune not to use Tampa Bay Times was set to expire this year.

"It was an easy call," Sharpe said. "It was a no-brainer."

Becca Tieder and Kelly Addington celebrated the one-year anniversary of One Student on, appropriately, 11/1/11.

The two Tampa Bay women launched the nonprofit to give college students tools and resources to deal with sexual assault. After one year, 50 One Student chapters already have formed on college campuses.

Congresswoman Kathy Castor not only helped remove the Produce Station Post Office in East Tampa from the closure list, but on Monday she announced a proposal to rename it after the late Abe Brown.

USF fans can watch the Bulls game against Syracuse at Curtis Hixon Park in Tampa on Nov. 11. It'll be a sweet outdoor opportunity if the weather is nice.

And I'm sure the Occupy Tampa folks will lend 99 percent of their support to the team — at least for three hours.

That's all I'm saying.
