Heart-healthy chocolate and heart-healthy wine make for a merry gathering, especially with chef Jeffrey Jew making the pairings. He is the Top Chef contestant and executive chef for 2BHospitality, overseeing the kitchen at the soon-to-open Stillwaters Tavern on St. Petersburg's popular Beach Drive.
The event was a Circle of Red information and membership party hosted by Debbie Saltiel and Toni Walsh in the Walsh home on Tierra Verde. Nearly 100 women from throughout the bay area heard the personal stories of Kristen Powers and C1 Bank Florida Market president Katie Pemble, past Go Red chairwoman.
Circle of Red asks influential volunteers to donate time and financial resources raising awareness for the American Heart Association.
And those treats? Jew paired Batasiolo Moscato D'Asti with vanilla mascarpone cream and Anjou pears, raspberries and pistachios, mixing the mascarpone with fat-free yogurt and skim milk. With Brazin Zinfandel from Lodi, Calif., he served a dark chocolate ganache tart with gorgonzola crumbles on phyllo pastry. And with Sandeman's Oloroso sherry, he offered peanut butter and pretzels with dark chocolate pot de creme.
