Clearwater makes Amazon's list of most romantic cities

CLEARWATER — This city may have one of the highest percentages of senior citizens in the country, but it's no slouch when it comes to romance.

On Thursday, Internet retail giant Amazon ranked Clearwater No. 12 on its list of America's 20 most romantic cities.

Cities were ranked based on Amazon sales per person since Jan. 1 of romance novels, relationship books, romantic-comedy films, Barry White albums and sexual-wellness products like massage lotions and contraceptives.

Knoxville, Tenn., topped the list, which also featured four Florida cities other than Clearwater: Orlando (No. 4), Miami (No. 7), Gainesville (No. 17) and Tallahassee (No. 20).

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Clearwater has the country's second-highest percentage of residents over the age of 65 (behind Scottsdale, Ariz.) and over the age of 85 (behind urban Honolulu).
