Colson Elementary students revel in Great American Teach-In

The Great American Teach-In featured 35 presenters Thursday at Colson Elementary School in Seffner. The presenters's subjects ranged from health care and the military to martial arts and car stereos for the 700-student school. A 50,000-watt stereo was demonstrated by Tommy McKinnie of K.O.B. Kustoms for the school's hearing impaired class. Retired Navy Petty Officer Steven Michaeli was a return presenter. He retired after 26 years in the service, having served in the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines. "Every day I'm studying something," he told the kids of a soldier's life. When he first presented at a Teach-In, in 1991, he wore a dress uniform and talked in a classroom. He found the kids paid more attention when he dressed for the field, bringing survival gear outside the school and hauling the kids outside. "I love doing this," he said.
