Emu attacked by dogs in Plant City dies

TAMPA — An emu attacked by dogs in Plant City has died.

The bird was discovered Tuesday by a Plant City man after it wandered into his back yard. The emu, a large bird native to Australia, had several gashes on its back that veterinarians at Busch Gardens determined came from dogs. Busch Gardens cared for the bird, but by Wednesday morning it had died, said spokeswoman Kelly Heckinger. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is still working to find the owner of the emu, Heckinger said.
