Students to compete in Envirothon at SPC Campus on Feb. 17
All Hillsborough and several Pinellas high schools are scheduled to send field teams next week to the Tampa Bay Regional Envirothon, the local contest of the national Canon Envirothon, North America's largest high school environmental education competition.
Reaching more than 500,000 students annually, the Envirothon's goal is to develop knowledgeable, skilled and dedicated citizens who are prepared to achieve a balance between the quality of life and the quality of the environment.
The Envirothon is a hands-on problem-solving competition for high school-age students in the United States and Canada, according to the website, envirothon.org.
Teams complete training and testing in five natural resource categories: soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues.
The Tampa Bay Regional Envirothon is scheduled for Feb. 17 at the Natural Habitat Park on the Seminole campus of St. Petersburg College.
