Families in need able to get free food packages Saturday in Tampa

TAMPA — The nonprofit Farm Share organization and Rep. Mark Danish, D-Tampa, are sponsoring a food distribution from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the University Area Community Center, 14013 N 22nd St.

Families in need will be provided food packages, free of charge, with fresh produce and other goods. Farm Share expects to bring more than 40,000 pounds of food to feed more than 1,000 Tampa families.

Last year, Farm Share, which is based in Homestead, distributed more than $40 million in food to more than 1 million Florida families through church food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior centers and veterans groups.
