FHP trooper helps deliver baby on side of Interstate 4 in Hillsborough

SEFFNER — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper helped deliver a baby on the side of Interstate 4 Friday morning, authorities said. Trooper Brett McCranie was responding to a crash in the westbound lanes of I-4 west of Mango Road at 7:35 a.m. As the trooper investigated a four-vehicle crash, he was approached by Arturo Santiago, 32, of Plant City, who had pulled over after seeing the trooper in the median, FHP said. Santiago ran to McCranie and explained that his wife, Emila Paz, was in labor in their 2001 Ford Explorer. The trooper ran to Paz who moments later delivered a baby girl that the couple has named Iris. McCranie provided basic care for the baby and called an ambulance. Hillsborough Fire Rescue workers took baby and mother to Tampa General Hospital where they were in good condition, the FHP said.

I won't bore you with a tedious recap of Hurricane Irma's aftermath, but by the fourth night without electricity I had to get out of the house. I headed out to the beach to cool off at a bar that I has noticed while passing by not long ago.
