Florida Strawberry Festival reveals 'Our Masterpiece of Fun' theme for 2013

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL SHARES theme, artwork

The Florida Strawberry Festival revealed the theme for the 2013 event: "Our Masterpiece of Fun." The theme comes with artwork featuring a beret-wearing strawberry holding a paint brush.

The festival runs from Feb. 28 through March 10 and will feature 24 headline acts on the Wish Farm stage, 80 midway rides and nearly 400 vendors.

Marker approved for Bealsville

Hillsborough County commissioners gave initial approval to a historical marker Sept. 6 that will recognize the 12 founders of Bealsville, a community settled by freed slaves in 1865 after the Civil War.

Library will host reception for artist

A reception for Ruby Williams, a local folk artist whose work has been featured in the Smithsonian, will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bruton Memorial Library, 302 N McLendon St. Williams is the library's featured artist this month.

Learn to be a good judge of barbecue

The Plant City Chamber continues to take applications for its annual Kansas City Barbecue Society Judges School, which will be Oct. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Barbecue. Registration is $65 for society members and $100 for nonmembers. To register, call (813) 754-3707.
