Funds for flamingos

CHERIE DIEZ | Times

Lucy, left, and George stand in the sunshine Monday at Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg. They are the last two left out of a flock of 17 Chilean flamingos brought to the park in 1959. The Flamingos Forever fundraising group formed last year to help buy more flamingos and to update and enlarge their habitat. The effort has raised about $10,000, said Sunken Gardens director Bill O'Grady. The goal is to purchase 20 flamingos at $2,000 to $3,000 apiece.
