SWAT team trainees, dressed in 30 pounds of gear, work through a physical training exercise Tuesday on the second day of Basic SWAT School at the Clearwater Police Department's Patrol District III Station on McMullen-Booth Road. Forty trainees, including police officers and sheriff's deputies from Pinellas and Pasco counties, planned to endure two weeks of training touching on nutrition and hydration, use of deadly force, hostage rescue, the use of camouflage for concealment, chemical munitions exposure and more. The program culminates with a written test, which, if passed, certifies trainees and allows them to apply for their departments' SWAT teams.
