The Special Olympics Florida torch went through Tampa on Wednesday en route to its final destination: Kissimmee, where the 2014 summer games will take place May 16-17.
Hillsborough County raised $84,500 in the event. The money will be used to cover the costs of the local and state Special Olympics.
The torch is carried 1,500 miles through the state by law enforcement representatives in advance of the games. On Wednesday morning, the torch was carried by service members from MacDill Air Force Base to Ballast Point Park, where it was handed to local law enforcement representatives, eventually being carried to the Tampa Convention Center.
Statewide, more than 300 law enforcement agencies contributed to the torch run.
