Home Depot's 'Team Depot' renovates Tampa veteran's home

Jim Collins, 90, talks with Home Depot store manager Rebecca Muldoon on Thursday about the repairs and yard work that Home Depot volunteers were doing on his home on Jamaica Avenue in Tampa. “This is unbelievable,” Collins said, as volunteers painted, planted, put up a flag pole and created edging around flower beds. They also built a planting table. “I have my father’s flag, with 48 stars on it. I am going hang it from that pole,” Collins said, as workers put up the pole. Team Depot, the company’s associate-led volunteer force, renovated the home of the World War II vet in partnership with the USO Central Florida. The repairs will make Collins’ life easier by allowing him to spend less time maintaining and working on his home and more time enjoying his family. Collins has seven children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The effort in Tampa is a part of Home Depot’s fourth annual Celebration of Service, during which Home Depot volunteers transform more than 1,000 homes for veterans across the country, from Sept. 11 to Veterans Day.
