Withlacoochee SAR make Christmas trip to veterans home: On Dec. 10, members of the Withlacoochee Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution made their annual Christmas trip to the Baldomero Lopez State Veterans Nursing Home in Land O’Lakes for the Veterans Without Families Christmas Party. Accompanying chapter members were members of the ladies auxiliary and several employees of the Homosassa Walmart Supercenter store. The Walmart employees and the auxiliary purchased clothing and gift items for 14 veterans at the nursing home. In addition, the chapter constructed an electrical cart equipped with a new television and DVD/VHS player that can be moved from room to room. It is the second equipped cart the chapter has purchased for the home. The chapter also donated hundreds of dollars in quarters to be used by the veterans in their weekly bingo games. Altogether, the donations were valued at about $2,000. The large group of Santa’s helpers had fun watching the faces of the veterans as they received their gifts, and were able to help the recipients open their gifts. Before leaving, the chapter presented Joanne Burley, home activities director, with a SAR Good Citizenship medal and certificate, recognizing her years of work and coordination with the chapter and the veterans.
