Hometown Hernando for Oct. 21

Remembering Arnold Palmer: After learning that golf legend Arnold Palmer had died Sept. 25, the Rev. G.H. Trumbo of High Point reflected on the times he met and even played golf with the “King” of the PGA. In 2004, Trumbo was the senior pastor at First United Methodist Church in Greensburg, Pa. A member of the church, John Finfrock, served on the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport board in Latrobe, Pa., and had mentioned to Palmer that Trumbo was a huge fan. In August that year, Trumbo had the pleasure of playing 18 holes with Palmer at Latrobe Country Club. Palmer shot a 76, and Trumbo had 81. For Palmer’s 80th birthday, Trumbo, right, gave him a poem he wrote called A Golfer’s Prayer, which he was later told that Palmer kept in his office. In November 2013, Trumbo and his wife, Barb, met up with Palmer at Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, where they were his guests for lunch. G.H. Trumbo, 68, is club champion at High Point Golf Club in Brooksville.
