Hometown North Pinellas for Aug. 15

CHIROPRACTOR AWARD: Dr. Julie Mayer Hunt was named the 2014 Chiropractor of the Year by the International Chiropractors Association. Hunt was presented the award by ICA president Dr. Michael McLean at the awards banquet at the Cleveland College Campus in Overland Park, Kan. She is a second-generation chiropractor, as her father established his clinic almost 60 years ago. Mayer Chiropractic has since been a long-standing clinic in Clearwater.

SCOTTISH TOWERS ii honors: Scottish Towers II apartment community in Dunedin was recognized by the National Apartment Association's Units magazine for "best local charm" in the annual Curb Appeal Awards. It was one of only three Florida properties recognized from 26 communities. Scottish Towers II is a 55-and-older community with a panoramic view of St. Joseph Sound, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

regatta is a success: The 2014 Tampa Bay Hospice Cup Dinner and Regatta raised enough money to present executives from both the LifePath Hospice of Hillsborough and the Suncoast Hospice of Pinellas with checks for $25,000. The regatta was hosted by the Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa and was sponsored by TECO, the Crewe of Bobby C. Davis, Tampa Tank/Florida Structural Steel and Doug King Contracting. The donations were presented by internationally known Tampa Bay yacht designer and builder Charley Morgan, a resident of Treasure Island.

LOCAL SONGWRITER GETS GRAMMY HONOR: Kyle Knudsen of Palm Harbor was selected as one of six songwriters from around the world to participate in the Grammy Foundation's program in New York. The camp at the Converse Rubber Tracks in Brooklyn is a nine-day program that offers high school students an interactive summer music experience with instruction by professionals. Knudsen, also know as Denim Blue on stage, studies voice at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School. He and his musical partner, Miclain Keith, will perform at the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater today, Aug. 15. For information, call (727) 791-7400 or visit
