Military news

Navy Seaman Recruit Jessiah Stout, son of Lisa A. Krick of Zephyrhills, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Stout completed a variety of training including classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations," an exercise giving recruits skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet and emphasizing the attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance while making practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.

There is a reason why the air in Tampa Bay is filled with playoff talk. If Thursday night's 12-8 Bucs preseason win over the Jaguars is any indication, it's also going to be filled with footballs thrown by quarterback Jameis Winston.

Doug Martin gets the Bucs’ only touchdown on a 2-yard run, squeaking past linebacker Telvin Smith in the first quarter. He has five carries for 30 yards.
