Navy Seaman Alexander B. Lenz recently completed naval basic training at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Lenz is a 2009 graduate of Zephyrhills High School, and the son of Nils R. and Brenda L. Lenz of Zephyrhills.
Eight Pasco-Hernando State College students — including four from Pasco County — were nominated to the 2014 Phi Theta Kappa All-Florida Academic Team. The four Pasco nominees were Jasmine Frey and Hongyan Lu of Hudson and Sasha Stanek and Michael Wilson of Dade City. The students were selected based on academic achievement, leadership and community service.
They recently attended an awards ceremony at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando.
Clubs and organizations
The department of communication and marketing/multimedia management program at Saint Leo University recently hosted a Cinema Challenge competition.
Nine students from Florida high schools participated in the daylong event, working in teams to produce a short video about the university in a "Where's Waldo"-type of format, incorporating the university's six core values and its lion mascot, Fritz.
Winning teams in the competition included: Risa Anasky of Spring Hill and Quincy Pringle of Mims, first place; Nicholas McGettrick of Port Richey and Kevin Kellaher of Ponte Vedra Beach, second place, and Mackenzie Burke of Lutz and Amber Gilkes of Dade City, third place.
Also participating were: Madeline Ford, Kaitlen Long and Eden Shirmohammad.
