Dell deChant named chairman of department at USF:  Dell deChant, a master instructor in the department of religious studies at the University of South Florida, was recently named the new department chairman. DeChant, of New Port Richey, has taught at USF since 1986. The author of three books and multiple articles, he is a specialist in religion and contemporary cultures, currently focusing on the contemporary ecological crisis as it manifests in American popular culture and religion. Previously, he served as associate chairman of the department from 2005 to 2012 and from 2015 to 2016. He also has served as the undergraduate director and in various administrative posts in the department. DeChant succeeds James Cavendish, who has become chairman of the department of sociology.
