Ikea furniture store opens Wednesday in Tampa

Wednesday's the day. Finally. The largest Ikea store in Florida opens with 10,000 home furnishing items, 49 room settings, three fully furnished home interiors, a 350-seat restaurant and — at least throughout the grand opening — 3,000 on- and off-site parking spaces. That sounds like plenty of parking, but this is Ikea, a furniture store that has been the subject of local fan blogs and a place where people are expected to start camping out two days in advance for grand opening day prizes. To avoid gridlock, Ikea suggests you park for free at the Centro Ybor parking garage (Sixth Street at 15th Avenue), and hop on a shuttle bus to the vast blue and yellow building at Adamo Drive and 22nd Street. Free shuttle service runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, then 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. through May 10 and every weekend through Memorial Day. Amy Scherzer, Times staff writer
