DADE CITY — State Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey, called on Gov. Rick Scott on Monday to review and possibly replace the Pasco County Housing Authority's governing board.
Legg cited reports of mismanagement and expressed concern that low-income families are not receiving adequate assistance with public housing. The board, which has three members and two open seats, is scheduled to meet at 3:30 p.m. today in Dade City.
Members are serving expired terms, Legg noted, with one seat unfilled since 2007.
A Times story on Sunday detailed a whistle-blower lawsuit filed by former finance director Maggie Taffs, who claims she was fired after raising questions about finances and said executive director Karen Turner had sex with two subordinates.
Pat Driscoll, who retired four years ago from the agency, said that he had sex with Turner at the agency's headquarters during work hours and that she paid him overtime he didn't earn.
Regina Mirabella, one of three gubernatorial appointments, defended Turner and said Driscoll was a "shunned lover.''
An attorney defending the housing authority said Taffs was fired for berating and cursing at employees.
