Morton Plant Mease Triathlon is Sunday at Sand Key Park

Competitors in the men’s 30-39 Skip Cline division take to the water as they compete in the Morton Plant Mease Triathlon at Sand Key Park. About 1,000 triathletes took part in last year’s event.

The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon, sanctioned by USA Triathlon and presented by the Skip Cline Society, begins at 6:50 a.m. Sunday with a one-third-mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico off Sand Key Park. From there, participants will bike 13 miles over the Sand Key, Belleair Causeway and Memorial Causeway bridges and then undertake a 3.1-mile run finishing in Sand Key Park.

Athletes wanting to participate can visit mpmtriathlon.org for online race registration. The registration deadline is midnight Saturday. Registration fees are $80 for individuals and $100 for relay teams. Proceeds benefit pediatric services at the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease.
