New Tampa student finishes second in National Geographic Bee

A New Tampa student finished second in the National Geographic Bee on Wednesday. Ameya Mujumdar, 11, made the final 10 of the nationwide competition earlier this week in Washington, D.C. The Turner Elementary School fifth-grader brings home a $25,000 college scholarship. The final round will be aired at 7 p.m. Thursday on the National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild channels. A 13-year-old eighth grader from Dulles, Va. took the top spot by correctly answering this question: The discovery of a major shale oil deposit in the Vaca Muerta formation in 2010 has led to an expansion of oil drilling in the Neuquen province in what country? The answer: Argentina.
