New veterans memorial to be dedicated in Zephyrhills

ZEPHYRHILLS — U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis along with other dignitaries will dedicate the new Veterans' Memorial Southport Springs in a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Southport Springs Community, 3507 Southport Springs Parkway. Bilirakis will be joined by Sahara Anderson, regional director for U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, Col. William Baez from MacDill Air Force Base and Zephyrhills Mayor Gene Whitfield. Representatives from the James A. Haley VA Medical Center, the Patriot Guard riders and a host of other veterans groups will be there. The public is invited. For more information, call (813) 701-1302. On Tuesday, Pasco commissioners issued a resolution acknowledging the memorial and the veterans' efforts to construct it. The memorial, located near the Southport Springs club house, includes six service flags with the American Flag and Prisoner of War flag and a dedication brick wall with two benches.
