Omaha Steaks has announced that Mitchell Chase of Largo is the recipient of a $3,000 James Beard Foundation Culinary Arts Scholarship.
It is one of five culinary arts scholarships the company sponsors through the James Beard Foundation, which was created to continue the legacy of American chef James Beard.
Students nationwide were invited to apply for annual scholarships in the areas of cooking, baking, writing, nutrition, food studies, wine studies and hospitality management.
Chase, who has worked in various leadership positions as well as a server and chef, will attend Johnson & Wales University in North Miami, where he will major in culinary arts.
After culinary school, Mitchell plans to visit Italy and learn methods of authentic Italian cooking with the goal of opening his own restaurant in Florida.
