Local traveling children's museum Investigation Station will hold its annual From the Sun to Pluto race on Feb. 16. The event features a 5K trail walk and run, a kids 1-mile fun run and a new 10K race, all centered around a scaled-down model of the solar system at J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park.
"Hopefully they come out of it with a better understanding of the solar system," said Investigation Station creator Lisa Campos. "This year we added a 10K event for people who needed a bigger challenge, so they'll go through the Sun to Pluto exhibit twice. It's going to be a good day also because people who came to previous fundraising events for the exhibit will really get to see where the money went."
The sign-in table and start line will be at the From the Sun to Pluto exhibit, which is where the bicycle path and the foot path from shelter No. 5 meet. Start time is 8:30 a.m. (on-site registration table opens at 7:30 a.m.). Registration includes T-shirts and breakfast. Medals will be awarded to the top finishers in each age category, and trophies will be presented to the overall winners. All fun run participants will receive medals and a free kids pizza.
For information, call Campos at (727) 459-7331 or visit investigation station.net to register.
