SCOTT KEELER I TIMES

Melanie Bevan, St. Petersburg assistant police chief, carries the torch as she runs Tuesday along First Avenue N in St. Petersburg with other officers at the start of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Florida Special Olympics. The Special Olympics torch was passed from one law enforcement agency to another as runners proceeded from St. Petersburg to Clearwater, ending at Paul B. Stephens Exceptional School. The run has been held in Pinellas County for more than 25 years.
