Powerball jackpot hits $250 million

By 11 p.m. Wednesday night, some lucky Floridian could be a $250 million winner.

That's the current jackpot for the Powerball lottery drawing, which will be held at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday. That would be the ninth largest Powerball jackpot ever awarded. Florida joined the multistate Powerball game this past January.

The current run began on July 1 and is on its 15th draw without a jackpot hit.

If one person had a winning ticket, he or she could take a cash option of $128.8 million.

The jackpot for the Florida Lotto on Wednesday is $15 million.

The largest Florida Lotto jackpot won by a single-ticket winner was $81.6 million on March 29, 2000. The ticket was claimed by 11 employees of the Whispering Pines Nursing Center in New Port Richey.

On Sept. 15, 1990, six Lotto players split the highest jackpot since start up, an estimated $106.5 million.

The all-time record Powerball jackpot of $365 million was won by a group of eight co-workers at a Con Agra Foods plant in Lincoln, Neb., on Feb. 18, 2006.
