Autistic children visit with sensory-friendly Santa in Tampa

A "sensory-friendly Santa" visited with about 175 autistic children on Saturday during a special event at the Ferguson Law Center in Tampa.

Many children with autism suffer sensory processing disorders, becoming overwhelmed by loud sounds, crowds, lights and large spaces. Saturday's event offered them the opportunity for photos with Santa, while minimizing factors that could make them uncomfortable.

After getting their pictures with Santa, the children could pick out a present from under the Christmas tree and participate in holiday-themed arts and crafts activities.
