South Tampa Irish pub Four Green Fields celebrates 20th year

Four Green Fields, an Irish pub thriving on great beer, good food and Tampa's friendliest patrons, celebrates its 20th anniversary Friday through Sunday.

The thatched-roof bar at 205 W Platt St. will offer door prizes, giveaways, musical performances and a rollback to 1992 Guinness prices, but the only enticement I need is the chance to relive great memories.

A street preacher added to the mix, cajoling us to turn to God. An angry shopper challenged, saying, "Return to the laws of Moses." The two-hour experience convinced me this stroke of marketing genius revolves around the emotion of shopping at an odd hour and the sense you're beating out the losers who stayed home. True bargains? A few, but nothing staggering. I left with only a bottle of Fanta, and it cost $1.98. Ouch. …

Kudos to Chef Dave West at the Rolling Pin Emporium in Brandon. His cooking lessons gave my wife the confidence to prepare the turkey without fear. It was good before, but even better this holiday. Maybe I'll give him a real challenge and take lessons next year. …

That's all I'm saying.
