ST. PETERSBURG — The EDGE District received top honors in three categories at this year's Florida Main Street Conference, which brings together the state's accredited Main Street programs.

Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner recognized the EDGE District — which runs from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street to 16th Street and First Avenue N to First Avenue S — for its community revitalization and preservation efforts.

The district received the Outstanding Private-Public Partnership of the Year award for its partnership with the city of St. Petersburg on the development of its EDGE District Improvement Plan.

The Outstanding Business of the Year award went to ARTicles Custom Framing and Art Gallery at 1445 Central Ave. for its fundamental impact on the EDGE District's revitalization efforts. It is owned and operated by former City Council member Leslie Curran.

Outstanding New Construction Project went to Hawkers Asian Street Fare for its $1.5 million reconstruction project that transformed a vacant building at 1235 Central Ave. It pays homage to the district's industrial history and houses a successful restaurant.

The EDGE District's Main Street neighbor, Grand Central District, received the Merit Award for its sidewalk beautification project in the Public Improvement category.
