Kids give lift to cancer fight

DANIEL WALLACE | Times

Carrollwood Day School fourth-grader Elisabeth Caceres, 10, joins hundreds of her classmates Tuesday to fly kites at a fundraiser for the Children's Cancer Center. The event was organized by 10th-grader Karina Bowers for her personal project as part of the International Baccalaureate curriculum. At $10 each, she sold nearly 400 kites to fellow students to raise money for the charity, which serves the families of children with cancer. Each kite bears the name of a child from the Tampa Bay area who has battled cancer.
