The Suncoast Center for Fine Scale Modeling in Odessa has a new display, a foam replica of an 1898 Shay locomotive steam engine. The center commissioned the engine as the centerpiece to a mock engine house, complete with a graphic background, light, sound, and smoke from a fog machine. The center at 2645 Success Drive will open Saturday as a special date to accommodate Easter visitors, with plans to display the replica. The center also plans to hold four new clinics on the art of fine scale modeling, including tree-making using a new material, building with pastel papers, coloring plaster castings and making buffalo grass out of rope. For more information, visit the center's website at finescalemodeling.org.
