NEW PORT RICHEY — Pasco Sheriff's deputies Thursday unveiled their new rides: sleek, dark motorcycles they say are safer, cheaper and faster than what they used before. The Sheriff's Office bought six 2013 Victory Commander 1 models to the tune of $29,000 each with Penny For Pasco funds. The motorcycles are lighter (about 875 pounds) and less costly to repair than the Harley-Davidson fleets of the past, said Deputy Tait Sanborn. With a 1600 cubic-inch motor, they can do zero to 60 in about four seconds. The motorcycles also have a bulletproof skid plate underneath that can be used as a shield in shootouts.
