Verizon executive's relocation will be Tampa Bay's loss

Look for Verizon Southeast region president Michelle Robinson to soon relocate to Georgia.

Florida will remain part of Robinson's Verizon responsibilities, but her relocation strikes a blow to the area's leadership and diversity. Robinson is secretary-treasurer of the Tampa Bay Partnership and a key member of the Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation.

An African-American, she's also one of the few people of color to rank among the area's top leaders. She'll be missed. …

Essentially, the University of South Florida issued that rallying cry in the wake of the steep budget cuts state Sen. JD Alexander targeted for the school.

So far, Tampa Bay has whittled away at Alexander's plan, and the momentum appears to be in USF's favor with Gov. Rick Scott questioning the cuts as well as the move to immediately separate Lakeland's USF Polytechnic.
