Veterans honored at Haley VA celebration

TAMPA — A crowd gathered at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center on Monday to watch the sixth annual Veterans Day parade and classic car show.

A ceremony, with keynote speaker Maj. Gen. Aundre F. Piggee, director of logistics, U.S. Central Command, was held in front of the Fisher House before the start of the parade.

The parade included classic cars, motorcycles, Boy and Girl Scout troops, ROTC squads and many local organizations.

After the parade, Operation Helping Hand and USF sponsored a cookout and desserts.

"This was a good outing for him and the other veterans being honored today," Kay Cushman said of her father, William R. Menzie, 90, a World War II veteran.
