Vigil in Temple Terrace remembers victims of drunken-driving crashes

TAMPA — People gathered at the First Baptist Church in Temple Terrace on Thursday to proceed through the Walk of Memories during the 30th annual Candlelight Vigil of Remembrance and Hope.

The vigil was held by the Hillsborough County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving in honor of people killed or injured in drunken-driving crashes.

Many local law enforcement agencies volunteered their time to light the Walk of Memories with their police cars and motorcycles.

The First Baptist Church Temple Terrace Choir and the MADD Contemporary Choir performed during the service and candle-lighting ceremony.

"Tonight is a night of hope and remembrance for those who have been lost and the families they left behind," said Linda Unfried, chairwoman of the Hillsborough County chapter of MADD.

Unfried lost her sister, Josie DiStefano Palomino, in 1983.
