WaterTribe Challenge takes off from Fort De Soto

ST. PETERSBURG — The WaterTribe Challenge began early Saturday from Fort De Soto Park's East Beach.

The WaterTribe Challenge is a 300-mile, small boat (canoes, kayaks, sailboards, catamarans) race from St. Petersburg to Key Largo in eight days or less.

The race has more than 150 boats registered this year, making it the largest race of its kind in the country.
