Teacher Terri Rasmussen blows a toy shofar, or ram's horn, for Sasha Maversberger, left, and Grayson Manwaring, both 1 and of St. Petersburg, at Temple Beth-El Early Childhood Center in St. Petersburg on Wednesday. The group celebrated Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which began sundown Wednesday and ends sundown Friday. It is the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days and is followed nine days later by Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Children had their photos snapped for Rosh Hashanah cards surrounded by honey jars, toy candles and fruit.
